Bins & recycling
From 1 June 2026, Mid Suffolk collects food waste every week, and general refuse (black bin), recycling — glass, plastics, metal and cartons (blue bin) — and paper and card (green bin) each once every three weeks on a rolling rota. An optional, paid garden-waste service (brown bin) runs fortnightly. In Braiseworth (IP23 7DS) the collection day is Monday.

What goes in each bin
A quick guide to the four main containers, plus the optional garden bin. When in doubt, check Suffolk Recycling for the full item list — lists are occasionally updated.

Practical local tips
- Put bins out by 6.00am on collection day (or the night before), at the edge of your property nearest the road, lids closed.
- Missed bin? First check it was out by 6.00am, then report it within two working days at babergh.gov.uk/report-a-missed-bin-collection.
- Small electrical items and batteries can be recycled at the nearest bank at Buckshorn Lane car park, Eye (one of the mini-recycling-centre banks for items smaller than a microwave — kettles, toasters, cables, phones). Larger items go to a Household Waste Recycling Centre (Stowmarket, IP14 1JQ; pre-book).
- Bank holidays. Collections often move by a day around a bank holiday. The council’s collection-day tool is updated first — check it around a bank holiday.
- Garden waste is optional and chargeable: £66.00 a year per brown bin, plus a one-off £21.00 admin charge; collected fortnightly. Subscribe at babergh.gov.uk/garden-waste-collections.

- Can I put glass in the recycling bin?
- Yes. In Mid Suffolk the blue bin takes glass bottles and jars along with plastics, metals and cartons. (This differs from some other councils.)
- My bin was not emptied — what do I do?
- Check it was out by 6.00am with the lid closed and only accepted items inside, then report a missed collection within two working days (link above).
- Do I have to pay for garden waste?
- Only if you want the service. It is optional at £66.00 a year plus a £21.00 set-up charge; you can otherwise compost at home or use a recycling centre.
- What happens on a bank holiday?
- Collections may shift by a day that week. Always check the council’s collection-day tool around bank holidays.
